Reconstruction and Ressurection

Most burn victims usually want the same things: for the burns to heal or go away, and to have freedom from pain and scars. In essence, they want to have their old life and their old self back to normal again. Reconstructive burn surgery can be the beginning of the recovery process.

That is from my doctor's website. He knows what it is like to be a burn victim. I know he can give me MY face back. I never can get used to looking in the mirror and seeing a stranger looking back at me. Who is that creature? Certainly no one I know.

But I had it easy compared to some of those kids in the burn unit. I had mostly second degree burns with some third degree burns. And my burns were limited to my face. Some of those kids had third degree burns on their entire bodies. They are facing years of treatment and many, many surgeries. Sometimes it made me feel guilty for feeling sorry for myself. My problems were so small compared to theirs.
