As we continue the trip down 66 I feel a little homesick. Brody is a great guy and I feel a strange connection as if I have known him forever, but I do miss my folks and even Mabel. I want to learn from the past so that I may have wisdom for the present and future. I want to be with family and experience life with them. That is part of my reason for going to California and meeting my Grandma Sandy. Life is too short. I must put my old dreams behind me and make a new plan; one that takes into account my gruesome appearance. I have had some rude stares and some awkward glances from waitresses as we have stopped along the way. Most of the people back home were used to seeing my scars so I had forgotten what it was like for someone to see me for the first time.
So, I am taking my turn at the wheel and there we are, in the right lane, getting passed by a never ending stream of eighteen wheelers. Then, one of the trucks that had passed us slowed down instead of changing into our lane and moving on he just drove along beside us. Sure enough, the passenger of the truck was gawking at me like I couldn’t even see him. I was pissed off so I pulled out my camera and started shooting pictures of him then I just laughed and waved before I floored it and we shot up the road ahead of them with me and Brody laughing our asses off.
Route 66 Lyrics
Bobby Troupe
Well if you ever plan to motor west,
Just take my way , that's the highway that's the best.
Get your kicks on Route sixty-six.
Well it winds from Chicago to LA
More than two-thousand miles all the way.
Get your kicks on Route sixty-six.
Well it goes through St. Louie down to Missouri
Oklahoma City looks oh so pretty.
You'll see Amarillo, Gallup, New Mexico
Flagstaff, Arizona, don't forget Winona,
Kingsman, Barstow, San Bernardino.
Won't you get hip to this timely tip
And think you'll take that California trip.
Get your kicks on route sixty-six.
Get your kicks on route sixty-six.
